Malcolm Bird awarded OBE

Malcolm Bird has been awarded an OBE in the New Year Honours for services to the Automotive Industry. Malcolm is a member of the EuroMotor and AutoTrain boards and has been heavily involved in many regional, national and international initiatives to support and develop the Automotive industry. He has been especially concerned with quality and skills initiatives.

Malcolm is Director of Quality and Sustainable Development for GKN Driveline.

He was a member of the drafting team for the ISO 9000:2000 standards with ISO and represents the UK automotive industry in the International Automotive Task Force, the group responsible for the first global automotive quality system standard ISO/TS 16949. He is also chair of the SMMT Automotive Component Section, chair of the Quality Commission of CLEPA and is also a member of the advisory group for SMMT Industry Forum, and a member of BSI QS1 quality committee and the UKAS Policy Advisory Committee.

This award follows earlier honours for people associated with the Autotrain project: an MBE for Shirley Wooley and a CBE for Cedric Ashley, Director of EuroMotor.
